I have a fj62 ATM that the wife drives and it has the 3f which is a lot like the 2f found in the fj40 and you can't kill them.
They don't rev much ,they don't go hard but man they just keep going.Service them and you will not have a problem ( don't service them and you still won't have a prob just make sure it has oil and water.
Honest mate best thing to own go anywhere anytime only down side is they aren't to good on fuel,Mind you after driving my V8 commodore the cruiser is great on fuel
As to 20 years of the same thing...........Why fix if it's not broken
