Take it out of the tank but leave it wired up. Have someone sit in the front watching the fuel guage as you swivel the float (obviously with the ignition in the "ON" position). may take some time for the guage to react, they have dampeners on them to stop the guage fluctuating wildly as the fuel sloshes around in the tank.
