probably a stupid question I know but I have tried it at both extremes of rotation, can't pick a performance difference nor does it ping...

help.

(More performance required Mad )

It's a stupid question, but only because Toyota knew more than you when setting up the timing advance for best performance.

If you want more performance, you'll need to change the operating characteristics of the motor before you'll see an appreciable reward for changing ignition timing.

You are doing this without a timing light??

I'm not surprised you can't tell a performance difference and you're damn lucky it's not pinging.

That said, if you wanna run a random ~25deg advance for no reason at all and take the risk of failure, go ahead.
