I have been in 2 majors in rallies with bolt together roll bars by CDP Industries, one rolled twice the other barrel rolled 6 times, cages held together fine, pity the cars didn't survive but we basically walked away both times apart from harness bruising and very severely dented wallets.

Remind me not to drive with you Rolling Eyes Good to hear that all is well though.

My dislike for bolt together cages is that the joints are not solid, and often the method of bolting into the car is not real flash.

Like the old helmet ad goae "If you have a $10 head, then buy a $10 helmet". My life is worth more, and in my RX2 Club car that i had, I spent about $1k getting a VERY good cage welded in that made me feel vey safe.

Cheers

Actually I was only driving in one instance the really big omne I was the navigator, but it still all comes back to how they were made, these were all custom fitted and engineered to fit the particular car they wee fitted to, not bought off the shelf and fitted. Hence mounting points and braces were solid and correctly positioned to supplement the original strength in the shell. Agree that the only option is to buy the best that is available, hence I was using above the recommended spec Chrome Moly tube when everyone else wanted to use aluminium to save weight, the way I looked at it my head was woth more than saving 5 kilo's in weight, and as I said we both walked away without real damage.

p.s. seats and harness also need to be up to it, safety is a total package where all bits must be right and is more important than go fast bits at the end of the day.

regards
