Quote: | It's not like the chicks are bashed over the head and made to wear scanty clothes and drape over cars and such things to appease men. They're not forced. They're not stupid. They know that if they got a hot bod and good looks that they can get a lot of work and money doing adverts and other such things.
So, I don't think it's entirely correct to assume that it's all male dominated and the girls are forced into using their sexuality and looks. They do it because they want to and they like to.
It gets a little unclear as to who dominates who, when guys tongues hang out and they get all sweet-like when a pretty girl is around.
Terms like "pretty drifting" just exacerbates the situation by mere inference. It puts in place an image of hot chicks drifting their cars. In reality, you're just doing some plain old drifting, and gender has nought to do with it.
| You are missing my point entirely man, and totally misconstruing what I say! My point is the perception of chicks involvement in motorsport by guys, is mainly driven by modelling and sex. It's got nothing to do with their knowledge or passion for cars or their involvement in the competition side of the sport. I know that chicks are smart enough to realise that they can make good money out of modelling and also that they, for the most part, appreciate the attention (except when it gets too much). I'm not here to discuss the motivation behind being a model.
All I was saying is that both computer games and motorsport have similar problems regarding female participation and both contain a similar symptom - that is - women are used as attention grabbers for the horny simplistic side of males (yes we all have that side).
The real question of the matter is, why is it that chicks are gravitated towards modelling etc and not towards competing in motorsport - and as far as I'm concerned (although this is not a fact it's just an opinion) it has nothing to do with motorsport at all - it's just simply a fact of the way we encourage certain characteristics at an early age.
Show girls are not detracting other girls from being involved in motorsport, the show chicks aren't THE problem, but they are a SYMPTOM of the problem. If there was equity in the involvement and enjoyment of motorsport maybe we would have more show guys around? As for the who dominates who - what has that got to do with participation in motorsport? I'm saying that the majority of the participation in motorsport is governed and perpetuated by guys - thus it is a male dominated arena. If the models/show girls disappeared I'm sure that motorsport would still be around!
The real problem is the perception of females regarding cars by guys and how that carries on into fathering and early-age development. The general attitudes in society are the problem, and in a sense you can see how that has been perpetuated out at the race tracks - once again THE 'ACTION' AT THE TRACK IS ONLY SYMPOMATIC AND NOT CAUSAL.
As for the whole pretty drifting thing - I'm not going to comment!
On the whole I agree with every point you made, but please be a little less presumptious when reading these kind of debates because I've seen it all happen before and it spills into pages and pages of two people who don't communicate on the same wavelength because of assumptions and rushed replies.
