Aside from obvious pranks, during the whole series he didn't go in looking to 'trick' the religious people he spoke to, he let them mock themselves. He never once tried to trick or deceive the audience, so why would he do it in the last episode? The whole point of the show was to prove that there is no supernatural - not by just pointing and laughing, but by getting involved and being sincere.
