There's a pretty big difference between fitting a 1J & a 1G, the 1G is a fair bit easier in terms of fitting & engineering. If you were to decide on a 1J I believe you would have to start off with an RA23 over a TA23, as the rule for a forced induction engine transplant is no larger in cubic capacity than 2.5 x kg of the original car, so for a 2500cc 1J you need at least 1000kG of car to start with. I'm 99.999% sure a TA23 weighs in at around 970kg & the RA23 at 1070kg.
As for the crossmember issue, both engines come with a number of sump configurations that would suit either the forward curved RA23 crossmember or the rearward curved TA23 one, which are completely interchangable.

If you can buy an unfinished project with all the hard stuff done you'll be heaps better off! You'll save a few bucks at the same time... Very Happy
