Smile Update: - someone left a core plug in the block. It's been removed as well as the SLUDGE that gathered around it. Back cylinder had no cooling. Manifold is nearly unblocked... maybe it will fix carby cooling/tuning problem...very exciting!!.. maybe carbs will be OK with problems fixed because it never used to be like this.

Re: Maloney ... I will track him down and chat...I'm near Richmond.
Re: new engine.. I really love this one.. it puts up with all sorts of stuff and still keeps performing ...
I owe it to the engine and the car to give it a good environment to live in.

This car is fantastic - I've had this car since it was 6 years old and now it's about it's 34 years old. It lived outside in the weather for about 28 of it's years, and was left unused (by me) for about 12 of those years whilst I lived in Perth - I didn't want to get rid of it.
The paint is RS, but considering all the above, it has really stood up to abuse... and red paint is the worst - new cars just wouldn't cut it. There's no rust but a couple of areas where the trims catch debris that rots.
I love this thing.

My friend Brad, down the street is working on it. He's 23 y.o. and halfway through his apprenticeship. He has an afinity with cars, takes his time and is dedicated to the outcome and also is in love with 'old' cars.
He has a mint Adolph/Eva type old Merc and a mint canary yellow Torana and a little 'tree-frog' green 323 Mazda wagon which he built from the ground up. They are all little snapshots of history.

So guys, If you want some love & attention given to your car in Melbourne, I'll give you his mobile.
The BONUS - his jobs end up costing about a half to a third of the price of traditional means, PLUS all the little things get done with love. He becomes personally involved and committed and sees your car as a living thing and as a 'project' not just a means to earning money.
