I'm just getting quotes for insurance and wanted to know of any horror stories from insurance companies, specifically AAMI.

I have never had to make a claim (I am with Shannons) but my girlfriend made a claim when she was rear ended in her Swift GTI (insured with AAMI).

We had no problems with that claim at all, we simply dropped off the car at the AAMI office in Fyshwick (ACT), they took care of the rest. Car was returned within 2 weeks and the repair job was great and guaranteed for 10 years (or there abouts).

If you have a policy with Shannons on your older modified car they will insure your other car too. I found this out when I renewed my policy last time (about 6 months ago). The Shannons rep asked if I had another vehicle and I said yes, he asked if I would like to change it to a policy with them, I explained that it was newer than what they insure and it was unmodified.

He informed me that they had changed their policy to be able to insure cars that they don't normally insure as a primary car. So if you have your old or modified vehicle with them you can insure your other car/s with them that they don't normally touch.

I didn't take up the offer as the other car had just had it's insurance renewed, but it is something I will look into next time (especially considering my very modified car is only $30 a year more to insure comprehensively than my unmodified stocker that is insured for a lower value).

Also I "thought" that Shannons was a subsidiary of AAMI (or was it Just Cars that is????) Don't know but it's something like that.
