Nah nothing to do with being specialised to the car really, its just that your average local mechanic seems to (in my experience) see that it's a GT4, and automatically want to charge you double. Toyota included also.
If someone has done a bit of work on them before, and knows them a bit better, they are less likely in my opinion to charge out the arse to do a simple timing belt change. E.g. A local mechanic here wanted $620 to change it, with me supplying the part!
Edit: also guys, I just re-read my first post and didn't mention 'specialised' or 'specific to gt4'. The title of the post was really just to get gt4 owners in here and post if they knew of a good mechanic who'd worked on their cars. So
