From my experiences AAMI is shit!!! There is no communication between the staff and they are crap!
I have had two bad incidents with AAMI...
Incident #1:
Crashed Sprinter:
Full comp insurance, covered for $3,500.
All damage was LH headlight, parker, quarter panel, and radiator support was pushed back slightly(about 1cm).
I didn't want to claim but since I didn't ring NRMA and tell them I had changed my plates they wouldn't tow me (to this day I still don't know why the car wouldn't start? but it rested for a few days and then was fine?) any way...back to the claim.
The car was taken to the AAMI at Bella Vista for evaluation.
They rang me about a week later to say they wanted to write it off.
So I went down and went over the car with an ASSessor, they wanted to fix ridiculous things, like replace the grille, that wasnt even damaged, replace a RH headlight because it was missing a little clip(unrelated to accident), replace the bumper which also was undamaged. They would not panel beat anything, they wanted to replace everything:
Parts:
Front bumper: $170
LH & RH bumper brackets: $55.50ea($111)
Grille: $57.50
Grille Badge(Toyota symbol which I stole from a wrecker, could have been re-attatched to new grille): $15.50
LH & RH headlight: $190ea ($380)
LH Parker: $151
Radiator support: $140
Top lock panel: $163
Center Vertical Locking bracket: $60.50
Decal-coolant(saying what coolant goes in radiator to stick on rad. support): $7.25
LH quarter panel: $380
Radiator(which was undamaged, but being bent due to rad. support-no leaks tho.-): $261
Air cond reciever dryer: 26.79
Total cost of parts: $1923.54
Labour:
Fit Radiator support: $500
De-Gas and Re-Gas airconditioning: $110
N/S/F Rail and Skirt???: $180
Bonnet and Frame: $180
Wheel alignment: $40
Total Repairs: $1010
Paint:
front end in-out: $520
engine bay: $160
mix paint: 120
total refinish: $800
Labour: $1810
Parts: $2199.97
Total: $4410.91inc GST
So they called my car a Total Loss!!!
I had to buy it back for $150 and got it fixed for free in 2 hours in my driveway! $400 for a bonnet,$150 guard, $45 blinker, $125 h light.
Thats the 1st one!
2nd one:
Incident #2:
Stolen Corolla:
Corolla insured comprehensively for $2000
Got stolen from my house, found the next day, towed to AAMI(they wanted to charge us for towing) then sat there for a week before they looked at it, at which stage they wanted to call it a total loss because they wanted to charge over $2000 to replace a door lock, and a cheap AKAI stereo and 6" speakers. They changed there minds and repaired it. It took another 2 weeks to replace these, and they gave it back with a flat battery(same thing happened witht the Sprinter), and I had to wait another 2 weeks for a parcel shelf with 6" speakers to get made. and the replacement stereo was extremely cheap and shit.
Sorry for the long post, but I just want to show how shit they are.
They also have crappy communication between staff:
They rang about the corolla to say they wouldnt fix it as someone screwed up the policy and didnt list it as comp insurance, even tho we were charged for it, and the same with the Sprinter, they didnt list me as the driver even tho i was beside my mum when she started the policy and i hear herd her say: yes he is the only driver, and she even asked me if i wanted to list my sisters and i said no!
THEY SUCK ASS BIG TIME!!!STAY AWAY!!!!
Unless you have a car that is easy to fix, parts are cheap and plentiful and it is worth more than at least $5000, even then they will prolly find a way to make repairs cost a shitload more than normal!
Good luck finding an insurance company!
