Wilson Carbs in Carlton have a large range of SU needles available. Not sure what diameter the jets in your 8R Aisans are but measure them when they are next apart. Make sure your carbs are balanced and in good working order with no air leaks at the throttle shafts.
Pop your car on the dyno with gas analyser up its bum and see where it is rich or lean. Select a needle with an appropriate profile that will correct this.
As indigoid pointed out, hopefully the original needles have not been reprofiled. It is possible to have your needles profiled. The needles from Wilsons are about $12 each. Of course they will only have the original SU needles (not the Jap ones).
