slightly OT, but the guy who built my engine (turbo 18R) showed me some VW parts and turbo that he had ceramic coated - the piston tops, valve tops, interior of exh manifol, interior of the exhaust housing of the turbo, and dump pipe.

He did say that you would get higher gas temps in the exhaust and turbo, hence choice and design of turbine/housing/bearings plus associated hardware (oil supply and cooling fluid) were more critical.

The parts were on a VW powered drag mobile. THe main reason for doing it was to get higher gas pressures and flow in the manifold and hence turbo. I'd say that the life of the turbo was limited.
