do it by ear. set it so that the idle is smooth and that it barely pings when accelerating in too high a gear. even if you have a light, the factory marks aren't always accurate and your position when looking at them probably won't be right. looking in a straight line, through the marks to the center line of the pully & crank, isn't done very well by most of the people most of the time.
