fwiw, i'm currently rewiring my entire car, and for most things, i will be earthing direct to the battery, thru a series of large earth cables... like the 25 and 60 amp cables (12/8gauge?) from Jaycar.
nothing i hate more than bad earths
for relays, the VL commondores seem to have good quality ones. other than that i prefer to use 'proper' potter&brunfield ones, where the 40A rating is continuous, not 'horn' intermittent.. they cost between $5 and $10 each usually.
