With mine I took the wheel off to take the centre cap off then put the wheel back on, put the car back on the ground, placed handbrake on and used the biggest breaker bar I had (1/2 inch drive almost 1 metre long). They are around the 50 dollar mark and always come in handy. I had the same prob as you at first, took it down to the mechanic - his rattle gun didn't work, so he used the breaker bar to loosen them, then did them up just tight engouht so I could drive home. I bought my own breaker bar soon after. You could do the jack up trick and get someone to hold the brake on. Just be careful the torque you apply doesn't rock the car off the stands or jack... I thought it was safer with the wheels on even if it did take an extra 10-20 mins.. [Report message to a moderator]
