well if the boot is torn doesn't unnecessarily mean the the cv joint is stuffed, however normally if one side starts to rattle the other will most probably soon follow, you have to get the boot replaced anyway and the price of labour will be the same, so you may as well change the other side as well, and that way you wont have any trouble with getting a RWC .
