|
then it's ironic that none of you could make a positive contribution, isn't it?
Norbie wrote on Tue, 30 November 2004 01:53 | If you want to learn how to set up a diff just for the sheer hell of it, sure why not... but unless you're planning to set up diffs on a regular basis I can't see the value in it from a purely objective standpoint. Speaking for myself, I can only think of two occasions in the last 10 years where this skill would have been useful.
|
would've been useful right here in this thread, dude.
Norbie wrote on Tue, 30 November 2004 01:53 | Still, they say learning something new is never a waste of time!

you could've just quoted Wilbo, or myself, if you wanted to re-iterate our arguments.
i had a diff sent to me last week, after it had been reset by a mate... and he sure doesn't do that for a living. he's just the sort of guy who likes knowing things are done properly. i can guarantee that all 3 of you know his car, and it is an ongoing testament to his work. i have had the priviledge of learning from this guy since i was 17, and in the last 10 years the only thing he would ever criticise someone for, would be doing something dangerous... then again, if people learned to set up their diff properly, then maybe dudes wouldn't need to put truck diffs in their cars?
if you want to treat your diff as "set-and-forget" then go for it, but i really don't see how this lines up with you being one of the "biggest DIY enthusiasts" on the forum... an enthusiast would never say "no" to learning something new!
GO, WILBO! next stop, diff shop!!!
