Does anyone know why the coil on the 1G-GTE has 3 wires? I've always seen 2 wire coils, and I just checked my buddy's 7M non turbo motor, and his is 2 wire also. I don't know if the 3 wire coil is from the 5M or the 1G, but I want to upgrade my coil to a high output such as an MSD, but the whole 3 wire thing is making it hard to determine which coil to get. Any help would be appreciated.

how about.. internal resistor.
when starting the coil is powered by the non-resistor terminal, and when running is powered by the resistor terminal.
measure the resistance with a multimeter between the three terminals and tell us what you find.
