Steam pipe turbo manifolds dont require braces to stop them from cracking but stainless steel does. However wouldnt hurt to have one.

the brace stops the weight of the turbo, dump pipe, manifold pulling the manifold off the engine - it's not just to re-enforce the welds in the piping.
i'd say it's very important - even stock cast manifolds have braces (well, my 1G does)
