However steam pipe has quite a high thermal capablility. true that they are over-engineered, but for my setup which brings the turbo out away from the engine any engine vibration is amplified once there is a degree of flex in the manifold join/clamp. The leaks i have encountered have been due in part from manifold gasket failure (which allows the manifold to move even more), heat (sagging of turbo), and movement of piping (resulting in external waste gate flanges not lining up and leaking). The brace helps with the integrity of the actual manifold, but improves the rigidity of the exhaust piping system. it will also prevent zorst-system-pipe movement and vibration from affecting seals around the turbo and wastgate. cheers, Charles.
