Anybody know about the 1G-GTE????

hi people, I just bought (monday the week before last) a 1984 KE70 corolla with a couple of little mods, and we are looking for a bit of advice.
the engine is a 1G-GTE (2L straight 6) on straight gas, it has been converted to a single turbo suck through setup with no intercooler. the turbo is a VL turbo-style T03 with T04 compressor housings and wheels.
at the moment its running about 10-11psi boost and has an external wastegate (deltagate II if that means anything?) it goes pretty good 
it sits for a couple of days at a time at the moment as its not registered in QLD yet, so we try not to drive it.
we did the plugs the other day along with some other stuff and noticed it had about 2mm of oil sitting on top of the pistons...nice new oil that looks like it has just dripped down from somewhere, not caked on burnt stuff. it obviously blows a lot of smoke on startup but once its been driven for about 10 mins it pretty much stops...im of the opinion that the valve stem seals are cactus, or maybe the front turbo seal - is there any way i can test the car to tell the difference?
also, just some general info if anyone happens to know - what is the maximum reccomended engine speed for this motor? (assuming its stock internally) we have heard anywhere from 6000rpm to 7700...
and what sort of boost can they cope with? i know being straight gas its going to be a bit harder to know, but if anyone has any guestimates that would be tops - I was thinking 12psi and 7000rpm max - is that ok or a recipe for disaster?
