Re: What would you pay for a st185 GT4? (friend of mine wants to buy one)

Mostly depends on the mileage now for these cars and the engine\turbo's condition. Most turbo's will generally last for 12 to 15 years under factory conditions so most ST185s are now due for a rebuild. Try find out what has already been repaired on the car and by who.
Check the following:
Top the headlights and see if they are even.... very hard to align once in a accident
Wheel bearings for noise. Drive alongside a gutter and apply the brakes and listen for wear.
Rear Diff cushion - bunny hop the car in first gear and listen for a thud coming from the boot.
It the car has been lowered check the CVs as if not done properly they are placed under lots of stress.
See if it crunchs gears from first to second (syncros) and also from fifth back to forth (clutch or pressure plate) Driveline and engine labour for these cars = lots of hours which = lots of $$$.
The above are some signs to look out for when buying an ST185. Inspecting the engine is not as easy to do as you really need to get in there to get an idea. Not many people selling a car will let you start pulling it apart.
