most dashes will have exposed pcb circuit boards on the back. If you follow the tracks you'll find alot of them will have abbreviations printed in so if you can work out the abbs. you can tell what pin does what and substitute the right wire form your car into the dash plug. otherwise get ahold of some wiring diagrams (from your car / motor and the dash your putting in) and start matching the same wires. those that don't match ie low fuel lights in a ra/ta you'll have to be a bit more tricky about.... would prob involve getting the fuel sensor out of the car the dash came from or something like that.
