Yeah, Mines on straight gas, and I burnt the valves stems out. And yes, mine is bucket and shim. ANd yes, it is cheaper to buy a new motor and move all your bits over than it is to do it with the engine on it. Buy yourself another engine, get all the good bits on it as people have been saying and then put it on and GET IT TUNED ! (I am learning that the hard way now actually). Then, make sure there's plenty of spark, and sufficient fuel, and then you'll be right..
BUT
You should have an intercooler, but not on suck through. I have personally experienced many backfires, and they do BAD BAD things. I've blown all sorts of parts OFF the engine through back fires. Injectors, intercooler piping.. You name it.. Get a suck through setup with a gas research carbi. Much wiser, trust me..
