most is a generalisation - a generalisation of p platers going out on the road thinking theyc an drive when in reality they have only just scratched the surface for the experience they need to say they " know how to drive "
My oppinion is the following
Curfews mean nothing - not a damn thing when it comes to P platers - alot of kids would earn their living after hours - and that basically ruins all chance of them to earn an income - I know i spent most of my " p plate " time working nightfill + closeup at the local safeway - without that i woulsdnt have been able to pay for my uni education or purchase the things i need to get on with independant living
Whats needed is more driver education , MORE RESTRICTION ON POWER OF CARS OWNED BEFORE A CERTAIN AGE , and more responsibilty noted by young people to stick to the rules , not tru to be hero's
Now the first 2 can be don by the GOVT , the third requires maturity on the part of the driver ..
who out there would disagree with me in saying that an average 18 yo kid could *truely* handle something akin to a nissan GTS , WRX , V8 commodore, modiefied for performance only after a few years of trundling with mum or dad beside them ?
In victoria we have laws stating what cars can and cant be driven by p platers - its called a power to weight ratio law.
Now i know any car can kill, hell a skateboard can kill in the wrong hands - thats where point number two comes into it - Limit the cars that can be driven - and make sure kids can handle any emerency they come across with more chance of getting out of it unscathed!
Ie cheaper driver education/defensive driving courses - cheaper motorsport avenues , anything to teach them to truely understand their cars and what those cars will respond to if something goes pear shaped
..
Anyway thats my rant - have fun arguing my points
