westlife wrote on Sun, 19 December 2004 23:45 | Ok first question - People say I need to change the fuel lines/tank etc since im using Leaded petrol at the moment ? Ive been using Vortex/Premium fuel as of late because of the cancelled sale of Leaded petrol,fuel seems to get in ok so whats the deal with this ? and ive also noticed alot of people doing this on the older version Corolla's with no mention of modifications to their standard fuel system.

keep using the fuel's you're comfortable with - if you get your conversion engineered and have CAT fitted to the exhaust then you'd have to avoid LRP.
Toyota engines have been able to consume unleaded since the 18R (early 1980's). FWIW, i run my MA61 & RA40 on Pulp (or LRP if i feel stingy).
i would be guessing, but you're probably best obtaining a fuel tank from an EFI car - or swapping over the fuel pickups/pump from an EFI car. The main thing is a suitable fuel pickup in the tank and an EFI pump. The return line and vent (to charcoal cannister) are still used.
Also, existing fuel lines from tank to engine are fine to re-use.

Second - Will it bolt straight in ? or will I need to get some engine mounts made up or something ?

what mr shin said - search for this - you could also try twincam.org as it too will have articles on this conversion

Thirdly - Is this a time consuming project ? meaning will certain parts need to be custom made etc ? how much will wiring set me back ?
|
yes- there is a equation for this
Total_time= Expected_time+(Expected_time*0.5)+((Expected_time* 0.5)*Frustration_factor)
where Frustration_factor is a magical number based on your ability to scrounge parts and help from your mates - the more of both, the lower the number

I know that stuff like brakes/suspension will need to be looked at for this kind of swap so ive looked at that aspect.
Sorry if Ive sounded like every other post regarding this conversion but since im holidays with alot of times on my hands I thought id post this up

while you're on holidays you'll have heaps of time to search for and read tech threads and reader's rides on this very topic
