cv joint removal from shaft

Hey,
I'm having a hard time removing the outer cv joint from the shaft.
I've try hammering the inner race out of the shaft, but no luck.
I believe there could be a snap ring in the way that's preventing me to be able to knock the inner race out of the shaft.
Question, how do I disconnect the outer cv joint from the shaft?
The car is celica 90, 5sfe.

EDIT: I've discovered that you cannot dismantle the outer joint. So I've just cleaned it and regreased it.
