i as going to suggest that yo look thru the pics on the various import biz sites and grab a recent copy of fastfours or similar and look at adverts for manifolds for how the manifolds are constructed/designed.
or... come around to my place and have alook under the hood of the RA40.
most of them aim to bring pipes up individually to the base of the turbo flange so any gases exiting them flow straight into the turbo.
the ones with external wastgates tend to have a pipe leaving at that spot (a collector of sorts) allowing you to remote the wastegate somewhere convenient.
i've seen a few that connect the wastegate to one of the runners near the collector but that does seem a poor design.
the main aim is to not have gas flow from individual ports interferring with each other (e.g. avoid the log).
haveing said that, many factory setups are not much more that a log with some flow shaping - but when you're casting, you don't have to stick to a tube shape.
