a good start would be the RTA website:
<http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/rulesregulations/penalti es/demeritpoints/index.html>
and then searching the yellowpages for a nearby community legal centre.
but when you trawl thru the RTA web site, they suggest:
<http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/licensing/renewingalicen ce/cancelled.html>
and i'd say that after contacting them you have to submit forms/paperwork prior to your court date.
QLD is different about this - you have to submit a particular form (application for a restricted drives licence) to the court before your hearing date and you have to produce statements from your employer and persons of good standing (e.g. doctor, lawyer, etc) stating why you would need a car to get to work.. Up here, the courts dont always consider lack of public transport a big issue (e.g. serves you right sucker, get a bike).
Important thing to note about restricted licences - they tend to last 2-3 times LONGER than a disqualification period and usually have a specific route and time at which you may be driving. So unless you're a courier driver, your time spent in limbo will be awful.
I had this choice and decided 1 month suspension was better than several months of ONLY driving to work.
