That was precisely it.

If you are able to use a stretch boot there is not much to it.

Undo bolts to hub (you can leave steering arm attached), including 2 strut bolts and in the case of my corolla there were 2 or 3 little bolts that bolted the hub to lower control arm. Where people find it difficult is seperating the joint itself (need to put in vice etc), once you get the shaft out of the car (which I have not done). If you use the stretch boot the shaft doesn't need to come out of car.
