This is standard procedure of theives. If they unclip the loomy thing from the back of the deck they will need to buy a new one from the manufactuer.... some of which won't supply without proof of purchase.
If they snip the wires they can be spliced into the next cars system.
Your original deck should have its own loom. All you have to do is test the wires left in the whole in your dash to see which speaker is connected to which wire. The power cables should be standard colours.
To do this rig up a D cell battery so that you can hook speaker wire up to the positive and negative terminals and test pairs of speaker wires till you hear a speaker pop and then label those wires. Leave the labels on so when you get a decent head unit you don't have to do it again.
