i put a 18rc temp sender in my sisters 18rg, the temp is at 0 on the gauge when you start it, but the temp climbs off the gauge before the thing even warm's up
problem still not solved

sounds like you've got a switch not a guage sensor? or it's a GM (or other non toyota) sensor that has much lower range of resistance
