I weld and I have to say TIG is the most difficult of the manual welding processess. Oxy welding experience is good for TIG as you have a torch and filler wire that you have to coordinate. If you can get your hands on a machine, get some scrap and try to join it, good luck. Pipe is also more difficult than flat. I would be getting someone with experience to do the job. It should not cost all that much and it will be alot more expensive if you bodge the job.
