dont say that too quickly, ive seen someone decide that they didnt want to take their brakes apart (more likley they didnt know how) so they put the compound on the rotor and turned the rotor around to distribute it onto the pad. what was even stranger was they they then claimed not only did their brakes still work but they didnt make any noise. the proceeded to reccomend the same technique to someone else.

but yeah grease anywhere near the brakes sounds like a bad idea. the anti squeal compound is only $10 so just get some chuck it on the back of the pads and it will set like a rubber and normally sorts out any squeals.
