...After finally stalling in my attempts to wire the 1UZ (due to lack of knowledge/tools/time) I thought "Fuck it" and had it towed back to the place that put the engine in in the first place. That was Monday.
I was there today to fire the thing up (ran on 4-cyl, due to incorrectly wired 2nd coil (later rectified)
They installed the Autronic and the original ECU (to hopefully control the transmission) and, apart from a few leaks from hoses etc, all appears O.K.
Preliminary testing indicates that the OEM ECU *may* be able to control the trans.
So, all things being even, I should be able to drive it this w/end. Then, it's on to get the A/C re-gassed (anyone done a conversion/re-gas to R134A in an MX83 - can you give me an idea of what it cost?), engineering, rego inspection (although it's registered 'till January, so this may wait ), new shocks & springs, 17" rims and decent tyres and a sound system and security upgrade...
After that, we'll be broke, but happy!
So yeah, we should be able to make Bathurst!
