Tue, 04 January 2005 21:00 I was driving along the other day, strange noise, followed shortly by and engine light and the temp gague shooting up. Pulling over quickly and then getting the NRMA guy out to have a look, turns out I had a blown head gasket (good bye coast trip that arvo). Little did I know the day was only going to get worse from here. After the NRMA guy left I waited and hour for a tow truck, they sent out a lift truck, I wasn't very happy! They guy lifted my car and then worked out that it was 4wd, so he put the Jockey Wheels on the back. Then he looked at the front and decided he wanted to reposition on the tow arm, so he put the hand brake on and lowered onto a set of blocks. Of course when the back wheels aren't touching the ground, the hand brake doesn't do much. The car rolled off the blocks, landed on the tow arm, bent both fenders cracked the spoiler and removed a heap of paint! He then decided that this was a job for the tilt tray (something I said at the start), left and called the tilt tray. Tilt tray arrives (an hour later) and refuses to tow me anywhere but to his workshop. Tried to dodge liability for dropping the car because NRMA aren't supposed to tow modified vehicles. I had some (harsh) words with his supervisor on the phone to no avail and handed the phone back to the driver. While the driver was on the phone rang NRMA and explained what had happened, she got her supervisor to speak to the tow truck supervisor (who was still on the phone to the driver) and suddenly they were going to tow it wherever I wanted, given that my preferred workshop was closed I took it home, but only after waiting 30 mins so the driver could go down to the servo and buy a disposable camera.
