I very much doubt the gen 3 3SGTE head is the same as the 3SGE.
The block however is pretty much identical.
The Gen3 3SGTE bottom end workshop manual is actually listed as the ST20X 3SGE engine manual.
A lot of the valvetrain components are interchangable.
Don't discard the head just yet though, check with a few machinists to see if the head can be welded.
If they say no then give me the head and I'll take it to someone I know who will give it a no BS assessment.
