I scraped the block and (lightly) block sanded the surface to get it smooth and even. The marks you see could not be removed without deeper sanding and i was worried that might upset the straigtness of the block surface so they had to stay. As for my gasket kit I paid $385.00 (excl. gst) -full VRS set, genuine toyota from a dealer. (part number 0411142033). This includes all the seals you need to do the job, including things like oil pump and crank seals (which i replaced). If you're bothering to take the head off its recommended you use a genuine gasket as a minimum, torqued to 72ft/lbs, unless you want a metal head gasket from HKS and such. My old gasket was a non genuine and you can definatley see the difference in quality. While i was there i did the timing belt - only $39.55 (bargain), fuel filter -$ 48.00, new head bolts and washers ($140.15) breather hose (from sump to right cam cover)- $56.16!! (prices excl gst) I also took my injectors to be cleaned and flowed - i paid $90 but prices vary from $12-$25 per injector. And took my radiator to the shop to have the tanks taken off and the core cleaned - $77 (usual going price is around $90). It was a good thing too as mine was estimated to be 25% blocked, and it was last cleaned march 2004! [Updated on: Fri, 14 January 2005 06:51] [Report message to a moderator]
