IRA11Y Forums Junkie Club Member Location: sydney Registered: May 2002	Opticraps Sun, 02 June 2002 01:22 Well I ran a few tests on some of Shells claims on thier Optimax fuels recently, primarily that you get more Kms/L. In Feb of this year I travelled 3000Kms in 2 weeks in the MX83 Cressida and used the Kms as a test for some things I had been suspicious of for a while in the Sprinter. I started in Sydney with a full tank of Opticraps and travelled to Aubry/Woodonga and got about 580Kms to the tank from dead empty, to keep things fair I waited until I was on the return trip from Aubry to Sydney to run on BP Ultimate and got 620Kms to the tank, in the meantime I did around 2500Kms switching between Shell, BP and Caltex's top fuels. Caltex was well behind the others with the best of 550Kms to the tank out of 2 fills, Optimax was down on power mid range and hated hard work ( racing a 535i up the hills to Eden ) and was consistantly producing lower Km/L readings. Also it seems to dry out the plugs and cause them to crack around the electrode ( found on the 4AGE between services every 1000Kms ) I replce my plugs every service and ran the newly built engine initially on Opticraps until after the trip in Feb, since switching to BP Ultimate my plugs havent been suffering the same problem, I have what I feel as more power down low and higher Km's/L. IMHO BP is definately a better fuel, I dont know the specifics but I know my car and how it reacts between the two [Report message to a moderator]
