Well a friend of mine bought a second hand engine for $500 and it had no power, no oil pressure at idle and didn't go hard cause............ The crank was wobblin and bearings were munched, the cylinders were scored and pistons were for the wrong bore; with his purchase he was out of luck, cause the whole engine was fucked!!! Try a compression test to see if the car lacks compression - anything below 140 psi per cylinder could be your cause - if its dipping below 120psi thats probably your problem. Is there bearing noise??? Is there smoke on start up, or under hard acceleration?? These things will tell you if the engine internals are OK. The compression test is probably most important; is yours the 88230 or 88250 or 88270 - the 88270 has lowest compression and readings of 130 psi are OK Hope its something simple.
