I recently imported a 1989 7MGTE Supra Turbo from Japan under the 15yo rule but i understand there's a few things i need to do to the car first before i can register it in South australia. The car is stock standard with no modifications whatsoever.
So for South Australia:
1. Do i need to get side intrusion bars? Are they in the car already? If not, where can i purchase them and who can install them?
2. Where can i purchase the child anchorages? And where would the child anchorage points go in the rear seats? Pictures would be great!
3. Do i need to replace the seatbelts even if they're working? If so where can i get them?
4. Do i need a unleaded fuel restrictor?
5. Anyone know a good/cheap engineer in Adelaide who can certify all the ADR requirement and give good advice?
Thanks everyone!
I have imported and complied around 10 supras.
Side intrusion bars are needed. They are usually custom made. I can supply them for $150 each - and require fitting.
I can provide child restaint anchor points. $15 each. I can also provide photos of them installed in one of my imports.
Front seat belts DO NOT require replacing in NSW, not sure about other states. Rear seatbelts need to be changed from Lap to Lap/Sash.
I have an engineer here north of Sydney that engineers my cars for $220.
If you have any further questions, make sure you ask someone that has done it all before, so you get the right answers. I import Supras and other cars from Japan for a living, I have done compliance many times before, and I am happy to help as much as I can.
