I've never seen a 1600GT up close, so I didn't know what to look for. Yes, I went to Charles Sturt Uni. I did a bachelor of Info Tech. and spent a lot of time mucking around with cars on the side. I met my wife at Uni, which is how I ended up in Victoria. No career changes yet for me - but after 8 years of IT, I would like a change. Never actually owned a Toyota, but my Mum worked for Thiess Toyota (who imported the commercials and 4x4's) so my family always had them. My favourite was the 84 Tercel 4x4 wagon. That thing went better than 1435cc should! When Mum was finished with it as a company car (10,000km), she bought it cos Dad wanted to keep it. It was traded away in 1996 with 280,000km still running strong but just starting to use a little oil. I recently tried to buy a Prado Turbo Diesel when our first Jackaroo Turbo Diesel was written off. (I took it in for a service and the dealership managed to set fire to it and write it off!!!) But the Prado was not as quick as the Jackaroo (SOHC 8 valve 96kw vs DOHC 16 valve 118kw) so we bought another Jackaroo. Wouldn't mind a TT142 GT-T hardtop myself. There was one advertised on this forum recently, but somehow I missed out on that one. Mini Utes were available in other countries (Europe, UK, New Zealand and Sth Africa) but never sold officially in Aus. Instead BMC Aus offered a Moke with an aluminium tray (one tonner style) bolted on the back. A silly decison really, when you consider how well the Datsun 1200 ute sold! There was also a Cortina ute available in Sth Africa - with 3.0 V6 power. Saw one at a car show in Geelong a few years ago. I bet that 1600GT wasn't cheap, even if it was rough! I know of one 1600GT that got written off. It belonged to another member of this forum, who has a genuine RT104 GT sedan. You never know, "your" 1600GT may turn up one day. I thought I would never get a Mini Traveller (woody - my favourite Mini) as they were never sold new in Aus. But I got one for free! It needs a lot of work, but I don't mind if it takes me 10 years. The Minivan took me three years to restore, and the Moke has taken two years so far. [Report message to a moderator]
