Yes, I can see the differences between the 1600S and 1600GT now. That 1600S was in Fast Fours and Rotaries years ago, I think it had a 4AGE in it. Either one looks good to me. (Why don't they have a smiley for drooling!) There was a 1600S hardtop in the Melbourne trading post with an 18RGEU etc in it a few months back. The seller wanted $12,000! Besides it had been modified too much to interest me - yuk colour and interior, modified dash etc. But I really prefer the RT11# series, as they have a bit more space and can tow 1000kg. I want to be able to cruise in an RT11# on days when I've had enough of the harsh suspension and tiny size of a Mini. Minis are great around town and the handling is phenomenal, but they're a bit uncomfortable for long cruises. I have a Mini-sized car trailer, so I thought it would be great to tow the Moke to motorkhanas with an RT11# rather than the Jackaroo. I prefer to tow the Minivan/Moke to 'khanas in case I break something! The Sth African Cortina Ute was available in MkIV (TE and TF) form. I don't know if it was available as a MkIII (TC, TD) Yes, Travellers were never officially sold here. But in those pre-ADR days any enterprising dealer could bring in anything, and I believe some did. In those days most BMC models were available as either an Austin or Morris in Europe/UK. So you could have a Morris Mini Traveller or an Austin Mini Contryman. The cars were identical except for badges, grilles and paint colours. Either model could be ordered with or without the wood. My Traveller was ordered without wood, but it is easy to add it. My Traveller was apparently bought new in London in 1965 (rego EYR.53C) and driven across Europe and Africa to Cape Town (maybe), then shipped to Singapore where the owners lived for a few years before finally arriving in Melbourne in the late 60's. The owners settled on a farm in Cobram, Victoria. Their kids drove the car until it became tatty, then the grandkids got it as a paddock bomb until one day it stopped. It sat there for years. Finally I heard about it, went up there and rescued it. They gave it to me for free, as they were just glad to see it rescued and restored. When I have an RT11# on the road I will probably sell my Minivan and then get stuck into the Traveller restoration. I'm planning to keep it looking stock on the outside, but add a 1275, disk brakes, air con and wider Cooper S rims.
