Edit: don't get me wrong, Nos has it's purpose for relatively cheap power gains if done right (Fattony sounds knowledgable on the topic). But you will get reamed if caught driving the streets with it hooked up, or worse have a crash and get caught with it hooked up (both are quite unlikely though).

The other problem is the amount of pressure it creates, it is quite easy to blow a piston through the block if not set up right...
There are certain types of pistons that Nitrous is also good for destroying.
The whole bottom end of the engine has to be strengthened quite a lot to handle a decent amount of Nitrous, a friend runs a 75HP shot through a V8, it's basically on it's limit of throwing a rod through the block...
Luckily he is rebuilding the whole engine for good 1/4 power.
Also, N2O is a bit of a bad gas to have release out into the atmosphere... So don't let it outta the bottle...
On the topic or painting bottles... Another friend had an old fire extinguisher, about the size of a small nitrous bottle...
He got a "NOS" Label, painted his fire extinguisher blue, bolted it into the kick panel on the passenger side for a laugh, made the label face so people could read it... And all the guys at his school thought he really had NOS...
