Thu, 20 January 2005 05:38 Clint, I farmed out the steering conversion. After checking the bumpsteer in the original system, bumpsteer using a Commodore rack was checked. The rack was positioned so as to minimise bumpsteer (I have less than 1mm bumpsteer at full droop). They made a crossmember out of cold drawn seamless steel (rollcage spec stuff) that bridged the engine mounting points on the chassis. From this they made some brackets which hold a VN Commodore power steering rack in the predetermined minimal bumpsteer position. I wanted to keep the Crown steering column so they modified the end of the steering column (cut and splined) to accept the Commodore universal joint link. I then got a power steering line made. The steering is delightful. Universal joint. Rack in place. Tie rod ends. VN needs to be sprayed over. They are one of four non Toyota components in the car. Going back to exhaust shop next week - I will take better pics of the actual crossmember when I can get under the car properly. [Report message to a moderator]
