THE WITZL wrote on Thu, 20 January 2005 08:04 | middle groove to me doesnt actually look like it is supposed to take a V belt, or any belt at all. It just looks like a spacing between two belts.
I cant find any pics anywhere of how this is supposed to be done, i vaiguely remember there being an idler pulley just below the a/c compressor.

strange my crankshaft pulley has definately got 3 useable grooves, although there is 4 spaces/grooves in it.
Mr DOHC wrote on Wed, 19 January 2005 23:01 | odd, my w/p and alt run off one belt, the other 2 grooves arent used, i was gonna machine them off

ok this was my origional *stock as a rock* setup before i tried to fit a aircon
#1 groove(closest to reaer of car) = runs the alternator + water pump. this is infact a pulley that takes a belt.
#2 groove = this is an actual spacing between pulley #1 and pulley #2.
#3 grove = this is infact a pulley that takes a belt. it is the same size as the #1 pulley. runs nothing
#4 grove = this is infact a pulley that takes a belt. it is slightly smaller than pulley #1 and pulley #2. runs nothing
this makes me wonder why it has 3 useable pulleys on it and u guys only says it has 2
river wrote on Thu, 20 January 2005 15:40 | Hi,
I have an 18RG factory fitted air-con.
There is a dual pulley at the bottom of the engine and another dual pulley on the water pump.
The outside belt (closest to radiator) runs around the a/c compressor, water pump and the bigend.
So, both belts pass over the water pump and go around the big end. Inside belt to alternator, outside belt to a/c.
When my water pump broke some years ago, the car was off the road for nearly two months while I tried to source another unit with dual pulleys.
Both pulleys, on the water pump are the same size.
Witzl is correct, the v-shape is merely the groove between the pulleys and doesn't support a belt.
My a/c compressor is an old piston-type unit, circa 1974. To adjust the a/c belt you need to loosen the a/c compressor securing bolts and move the whole unit. It bolts to the passenger side of the engine, just above the exhaust manifold. I assume your unit would have to bolt on in a similar position.

*this is the setup i will be using now*
#1 groove(closest to reaer of car) = will be running the stock configuration, ie.runs the alternator + water pump. (in the picture i was just playing with options)
#2 groove = this groove does not support a belt, it is a space
#3 grove = this is infact the puley that will be running the air-con, on my setup anyway. i will have it runnin over the water pump (i have put dual big pulleys on the water pump) and then around the air-con compressor
#4 grove = nothing
