There aint much point looking at the HP rating, you need to see the cfm. Preferable more than 12 to spray a car. If it is belt driven and/or has more than 1 cylinder then it should be good, but the little direct drive things aren't too hot.
If it has a big storage tank then that can make up for a bit of CFM but you'll be starting and stopping all the time. If you are planning to buy it, just hire one for the day. If you want to buy one that you'll use in the future then try to get a good one, with more than 12CFM.
