i've been looking at replacing the old worn out 18rc with something a little better... we have a 22r at home, with less then 50K on the clock... how hard would it be to stick this engine in an ra28? i know they were in celicas at one stage, but i THINK they were the ra60s... i can't find any definite information, how do they go about fitting in the engine bay? and what gear box is the easiest solution? i'm only looking at it as a tempory solution, 'cause i'd like to go a 1ggte later, or perhaps even a 1uzfe... but the 18rc is really getting old, and i need something soon, so the 22r could be the cheapest option... what's your thoughts?

Only the RA65 ('85) celica got the 22RE in Aus; the RA60 ('82/'83) got the 21R-C.

I believe some of the US xA2xs came with 20Rs. Some people in the US on the Old Celica Club mailing list at www.celicas.org have put that engine into cars like yours.

IIRC the mounts are different between 18R & 20/21/22R, but someone else will know.
