actually, if you don't tell QT that the engine number has changed your car is not legally registered as the rego details will no longer match the physical details of the car.

There shouldn't be any need for thinking here, if you change the engine, you have to tell QT - whether by a simple safety insepction (to cover the engine # change) or engineering the change and getting a mod plate from the engineer attached (and lodging relevant mod-plate paperwork with QT).

(this aplies to Qld, other states unknown)
